Originally conceived as a "tag-along" group for siblings of older scouts, the Chipmunks of the 981st are an unoffical BPSA section, but stand strong! We have had both scouts who were siblings, and those who started as Chipmunks and are now Otters, with no older scouting siblings.

Our Chippies, as they are affectionately called, meet with the Otters, and a parent is required to attend as well.  We have one Scurry, and these scouts have their own uniform, motto, and scout sign.

Sign: (right hand by right cheek; fingers folded over into palm).

Motto

The Chipmunk motto is “Share and Prepare”.

Chipmunk Promise
“On my chipmunk honor, I promise to do my best”

Uniforms

  • Shirt: Yellow jersey tee (BPSA-US lists long sleeve, we have adapted to short-sleeve for the climate) with no collar.
  • Shorts/Pants: Either long-style Khaki cargo pants or shorts preferred.
  • Necker: 27″ square red neckerchief, worn with a ring or slide (“woggle”) at the throat
  • Shoes: Closed toed, suitable shoes

Handbook

We will be using the Chipmunk Handbook, as well as using a wide variety of curriculum materials prepared by our dedicated Otter and Chipmunk leaders.
